Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) – including cardiovascular diseases, cancers, respiratory diseases, and diabetes – are responsible for a significant portion of morbidity and mortality globally. Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are a major public health problem in Tanzania. They are responsible for an estimated 74% of all deaths in the country. The most common NCDs in Tanzania are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases.
The risk factors for NCDs include tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol, and exposure to air pollution. These risk factors are often interrelated, and they can be influenced by a variety of factors, including individual behavior, social and economic conditions, and the environment.
These diseases are preventable if the community understand the risk factors for NCDs (tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol and exposure to air pollution and media can play a major role in community sensitization and awareness.
Therefore, TANCDA in collaboration with PharmAccess, and TDA are organizing a media editors and influential people meeting which is expected to be held on September 14, 2023, at the Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam. The main agenda of the meeting is to discuss the role of media in addressing the NCD crisis.
