THE UPCOMING UNITED NATIONS HIGH-LEVEL MEETING (UNHLM) ON NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES (NCDS)

On 3rd September 2025, the Tanzania NCD Alliance (TANCDA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, WHO, and civil society partners, hosted a stakeholder dialogue at Luther House in Dar es Salaam to prepare the country’s position ahead of the upcoming United Nations High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The meeting gathered 35 participants from government, law associations, patient groups, and development partners to review Tanzania’s progress in addressing NCDs. Discussions emphasized the need for prevention, early detection, and quality response, as well as innovative financing, stronger primary health care, and improved multisectoral collaboration. Stakeholders identified seven priority intervention areas: prevention, PHC strengthening and early detection, sustainable financing, governance and coordination, service integration, empowerment of people living with NCDs, and improved data, HMIS, and research systems.
